WCSC: FEMALE FURY OCTOBER 2008

Team USA signed up six female fighters for Female Fury this past October. Despite the eagerness by our female team to participate, only two were scheduled for fights. Nonetheless, Female Fury was much anticipated by many as it was the first all female card in the Bay Area.

Charla Villain returned to the ring after a long recuperation from an earlier injury. Stronger than ever, Charla once again showed her adept and natural ability to dominate in the game. She earned her victory by unanimous decision.

Aby Rulloda, entering her third fight of her career, against Fairtex rising star Lindsey Marino was the show's semi-main event. Both 2-0 fighters looked to take home their first title. Giving up a slight weight and height advantage Aby looked to dominate with speed. Both fighters put forth their best and wowed the crowd with their respective strengths. Aby dominated early on scoring a standing eight count in the first round. She earned her title after winning by unanimous decision.

Congratulations to Charla and Aby for their exemplary performances. Most noteworthy is their ability to overcome setbacks from injuries and losing eye contacts during a fight! Congratulations to Kru Sam and our hardworking cornermen.

WORLD COMBAT SPORTS CHALLENGE AUGUST 2008

Congratulations to Michael Alfaro, Anne Espiritu, Krystal Khorge, Kevin Arceo and Skylr Pena for all class performances at WCSC this past August.

Michael Alfaro's much anticipated debut resulted in a close decision loss, despite landing well timed kicked and strong counters. Anne Espiritu fought well and fought hard against a strong opponent but also ended the fight with a close loss. Krystal Khorge entered the ring with her usual no nonsense style to beat a tough opponent by majority decision.

Skylr Pena and Kevin Arceo were semi-main events of this show with championship titles at stake. Skylr's third fight of his career showcased his acceleration as a young talented fighter. Skylr took home the Western Region title after winning by unanimous decision. Also in entering his third fight, Kevin faced a formidable Champion at WCSC. With both fighters delivering clean crisp techniques, the fight easily earned "fight of the night" honors. Kevin also took home a California title after a unanimous decision win.

Congratulations to Michael, Anne, Krystal, Skylr and Kevin for their display of courage and class. Congratulations to Kru Sam and our "best in the business" cornermen. Thank you to WCSC for their professionalism and promotion of Muay Thai.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MUAY THAI JULY 2008

Photography by PBFighter

Congratulations to Michael Mananquil, Ky Hollenbeck, Kang En and Christine Toledo for their fantastic performances and victories at World Championship Muay Thai in Las Vegas.

Christine and Ruth Ashdown was the only female fight of the night and showed that they could certainly out perform some of their male counterparts. After four action packed rounds the judges handed Christine a win by UD.

Kang En, fighting out of Omei Gung Fu but training with our team, wowed the crowd. His clean and crisp techniques earned him a victory by UD.

Our very own explosive Ky Hollenbeck torched the ring and caught his opponent with strikes left unanswered. Ky took his fight by TKO within minutes into the first round.

Michael Mananquil ended the night with the execution of a perfect storm. He fought a Japanese Champion fresh off of three TKO wins. Both entertained the crowd with tricks up their sleeve. In the end Michael's devastating blows left the judges without doubt that he had dominated all five rounds.

Congratulations again to all the fighters for their hard work and courage. A kind thank you for our team and fans for their support in Las Vegas. Much appreciation to Dennis Warner for once again inviting our team.

ASIAN HERITAGE STREET CELEBRATION

Once again, World Team USA's effort to promote martial arts at the Asian Heritage Street Celebration turned out crowds by the thousands along the streets of Japantown. This year's Muay Thai / Kickboxing event was well organized, action packed and approved by the CSAC. With the help of our wonderful students and staff, Tim Stell and the ten trainers who brought and trained their fighters, we managed to exhibit some 25 fights for our spectators. Congratulations to our participants for having the courage to step into the ring and the class to put forth their best.

WORLD COMBAT SPORTS CHALLENGE MAY 2008

WCSC's encore in San Francisco was impressive and well organized. The amateur kickboxing promotion put on a show worthy of professional status. They packed the Kezar Pavilion, managed to secure some 24 fights with ease and brought together the kickboxing and Muay Thai community for a night of great combat.

Team USA signed up five fighters for this show. Four of them went through, with each performance nothing less than all class.

Skylr Pena's fight was by all accounts thrilling and exemplary. He ended it in the first round by landing a high kick to the head. Krystal Khorge came out completely focused against a strong opponent. She executed her techniques with the intent to do damage. The judges agreed and handed her the unanimous win. Charla Villain proved that her trophy for Muay Thai Student of the Year in 2007 was for good reason when she took her fight by TKO within minutes in the first round. Both Krystal and Charla made their debut as an amateur fighter at WCSC.

The main event of the night pitched reknowned AKA fighter Dan Ash against our very own Kenneth Giang. Both Champions were seeking the United States title. Kenneth was honored to accept the best challenge of his young career. The fight was worth the wait for the fans who had to sit until midnight for it to commence. Each round had the fans on the edge of their seats as each fighter left no blow unanswered. The draw decision reflected the manner with which the fighters kept the action coming. In the end we were forced to wait for another day when these two can challenge each other again for that title.

Congratulations to Kru Sam, Skylr, Krystal, Charla and Kenneth. Thanks to our hardworking cornermen Michael Mananquil, Kevin Arceo and Vishnu Gulati. A heartfelt appreciation to the hardworking promoters of WCSC for putting on this show and inviting our team. Look for their next show in June!

NOT FOR SALE FUNDRAISER TOURNAMENT APRIL 2008

Our effort to raise money for the Not For Sale Campaign produced donations in the thousands of dollars. The tournament turned out forty fighters from eight different gyms. Most importantly, it was conducted under the watch and approval of the California Athletic Commission.

This event has helped bring back what was once called "smokers." With the continual support of the California Athletic Commission, our goal is to produce three more tournaments to help raise $10,000 for the Not For Sale Campaign this year. These events will also help facilitate the growth of our sport and bring the community together towards this effort again.

Congratulations to the fighters who stepped into the ring that night for their great performances.

TEAM USA HOLIDAY PARTY DEC 2007

Once again t he Team USA family came out to celebrate a year filled with challenges, victories, hard work and friendships. Catered by Marnee Thai and much home cooking we had a night filled with laughter and hugs as we reminisced during our annual slideshow. We also had a demonstration by Tahitian dancers, who are also students of Team USA. Many in the audience joined them on stage to strut their stuff.

There was much to celebrate this year with the arrival of five new gladiators and one new champion. Team USA's fight team was 10-1 in MMA and 17-4 in Muay Thai in 2007. These stats show an extremely busy year for Team USA compared to last year's 2-0 in MMA and 12-5 in Muay Thai.
